As usual, I had all these PLANS to start the new year right and all that jazz, but during my flight back to LA, I got sick (an unfortunately common occurrence for me lately) which put me out of commission for a few days. I’m better in some ways, not all. And since I live alone, I’ve had to do more while feeling under the weather which doesn’t necessarily help with recovery.
I don’t have any real resolutions this year, and even if I did, January is a trial month and nothing matters until at least March, so I’m cutting myself some slack there. If I had to name some “resolutions”, it would be what I’ve been working on for a while: fix my focus, continue working out and eating (somewhat) healthy, try and stick to a budget, stop doomscrolling/manage screentime, etc. Nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary.
People have been pushing for more fun resolutions, which I greatly appreciate. The world sucks, why are we constantly punishing ourselves instead of living our one precious life with some whimsy? So, I’m trying something. I have a habit of just putting on Youtube and letting my algorithm go wild (journaling, Day in the Life vlogs, entertainment content, not like conspiracy theories). But the past few days, TCM has had some great movies on (live or on demand), so I’m striving to replace my Youtube brainrot with classic films! On Saturday, I rewatched The Adventures of Robin Hood, one of my dad’s favorites, and it is so COLORFUL.
I’m also trying to cut back on my reading. While this sounds weird, hear me out. I used to only read 2-3 books at one time, but since the pandemic, I somehow increased this to 10, and I’ve finally come to the point that it’s no longer sustainable. I’m trying to get it down to 5 books at once, and this is really more so that I can have time to cross stitch and journal and do things that I can’t manage with TEN BOOKS on my plate at one time (I generally read one chapter a day, and if the chapters are long, well, that takes up more time!).
We’re barely a week in, and our country is still being run by an idiot, so these goals will likely evolve as I need to protect my peace and also, be part of the resistance. And I want to figure out a better structure for this newsletter to maybe achieve some growth? I don’t know, I do a lot of this stuff for me, but would love to create a community!
Hope you all are having a decent start to 2026. What are your resolutions and goals for the year?
